The Power of Your Support as a Guardian

Being a Guardian means protecting children who cannot protect themselves. It is a commitment to care, advocacy, and lasting impact. Through the Guardian Society, you honor the legacy of our founder, Dottie Berger MacKinnon, and help ensure that children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned have a safe, loving home for years to come. As a member, you join a community of philanthropists and advocates whose contributions make an immediate difference in the lives of the brothers and sisters living in our care. Your support helps provide stability, hope, and a brighter future, truly showing the power of a Guardian.

Dottie's Legacy

Dottie Berger MacKinnon dedicated her life to protecting and uplifting children. From 2005 to 2009, she worked tirelessly to create A Kid’s Place, a safe and loving home for siblings in foster care. In honor of her tireless advocacy, the City of Tampa named the Dottie Berger MacKinnon Children’s Playground at Curtis Hixon Park.

In 2014, she was inducted into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame. Though she passed away in 2013, her vision and compassion live on through A Kid’s Place, her lasting legacy of love and hope for children.

Today, that legacy continues through the Guardian Society, carrying forward her mission by providing stability, hope, and brighter futures for children in our care.
